Etymology

From Classical Persian لنگر (langar). Possibly influenced by Sanskrit लङ्गल (laṅgala). Doublet of நங்கூரம் (naṅkūram). Cognate with Telugu లంగరు (laṅgaru), Kannada ಲಂಗರು (laṅgaru), Malayalam ലങ്കർ (laṅkaṟ), Gujarati લંગર (laṅgar).
