Borrowed from Classical Persian دکان (dukān), from Arabic دُكَّان (dukkān), from Aramaic דוכנא (dukkānāʾ), from Akkadian 𒆠𒍇 (/⁠takkannu, dakkannu, dukkannu⁠/, dais), from Sumerian 𒆠𒍇 (/⁠daggan⁠/, chamber). Compare Punjabi ਦੁਕਾਨ (dukān), Gujarati દુકાન (dukān), Bengali দোকান (dōkan) and Hindi दुकान (dukān).
