[edit]Borrowed from Classical Persian دکان (dukān), from Arabic دُكَّان (dukkān), from Aramaic דוכנא (dukkānāʾ), from Akkadian 𒆠𒍇 (/takkannu, dakkannu, dukkannu/, “dais”), from Sumerian 𒆠𒍇 (/daggan/, “chamber”). Compare Punjabi ਦੁਕਾਨ (dukān), Gujarati દુકાન (dukān), Bengali দোকান (dōkan) and Hindi दुकान (dukān).
