[edit]Inherited from Prakrit 𑀮𑁄𑀳𑀸𑀭 (lohāra), from Sanskrit लोहकार (lohakāra). By surface analysis, ਲੋਹਾ (lohā) + ਕਾਰ (kār). Cognate with Bengali লোহার (lōhar), Gujarati લવાર (lavār), Hindustani لوہار (lohār) / लोहार (lohār), and Sindhi لُهارُ (luhāru).
