[edit]Inherited from Prakrit 𑀭𑀸𑀬 (rāya), from Sanskrit राजा (rājā), from Proto-Indo-European *h₃rḗǵ-ō. Cognate with French roi, and Welsh rhi. Doublet of ਰਾਜਾ (rājā).
