[edit]Inherited from Prakrit 𑀘𑀁𑀤𑀺𑀆 (caṃdiā), from Sanskrit चन्द्रिका (candrikā, “moonlight, splendour”).[1] Compare Hindustani چَاندِی (cāndī) / चाँदी (cā̃dī), Gujarati ચાંદી (cā̃dī), Sindhi چانديِ / चांदी, Marathi चांदी (cāndī), Bengali চাঁদি (cãdi).
