[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Prakrit 𑀲𑀺𑀁𑀖𑀸𑀟𑀕 (siṃghāḍaga), from Sanskrit শৃঙ্গাটক (śṛṅgāṭaka, “water caltrop”). Cognate with Assamese চিঙৰা (siṅora), শিঙৰি (xiṅori, “water caltrop”), Hindi सिंघाड़ा (siṅghāṛā, “water caltrop”).
This term previously meant water caltrop but later shifted its meaning to singara (a type of samosa) which looks similar to a water caltrop.
