Inherited from Middle Bengali মহুল (mohul), from Prakrit 𑀫𑀳𑀽𑀮𑁆𑀮 (mahūlla), from 𑀫𑀳𑀽𑀅 (mahūa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀮𑁆𑀮- (-lla-), from Sanskrit मधूक (madhūka), from मधु (madhu, honey). Cognate with Odia ମହୁଲ (​mahula), Hindi महुला (mahulā).[1]
