Etymology

Borrowed from Classical Persian بلبل (bulbul), from Arabic بُلْبُل (bulbul), of onomatopoeic origin. Cognate with Azerbaijani bülbül, Georgian ბულბული (bulbuli), Hindustani बुलबुल / بلبل (bulbul), and Punjabi ਬੁਲਬੁਲ/ بلبل (bulbul).
