Inherited from Prakrit 𑀯𑀟𑁆𑀠𑀺 (vaḍḍhi), from Sanskrit वृद्धि (vṛddhi). Compare Odia ବଢ଼ି (baṛhi, flood), Hindustani باڑھ / बाढ़ (bāṛh), Marathi वाड (vāḍ). Doublet of বৃদ্ধি (briddhi).
