Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Old Bengali পোখিরী (pokhirī), from Prakrit 𑀧𑁄𑀓𑁆𑀔𑀭 (pŏkkhara, “lotus pond”) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀇𑀓𑀸- (-ikā-), from Sanskrit पौष्कर (pauṣkara) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀇𑀓𑀸- (-ikā-). Cognate with Early Assamese পোখৰী (pökhorī).
