[edit]Inherited from Old Bengali পাপডি (pāpaḍi), from Magadhi Prakrit *𑀧𑀧𑁆𑀧𑀟𑀺𑀓 (*pappaḍika), from *𑀧𑀧𑁆𑀧 (*pappa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀟- (-ḍa-) + -𑀇𑀓- (-ika-), from Early Eastern Prakrit *𑀧𑀳𑁆𑀧 (*pahpa), from an even earlier 𑀧𑀔𑁆𑀫 (pakhma), from Vedic Sanskrit पक्ष्म (pakṣma, “eyelash”). Doublet of পক্ষ্ম (pokkho) and পশম (pośom, “wool”).
