Borrowed from Classical Persian دین (dayn), from Arabic دَيْن (dayn).

দেনা • (dena)

1. loan

   Synonyms: ঋণ (rin), হাওলাত (haōlat), কর্জ (korjo)

   লাখেক টাকার দেনায় বাড়ি কিনেছি।

   lakhek ṭakar denaẏ baṛi kinechi.

   I bought the house at a loan of around one lac.

2. debt

   Synonyms: ঋণ (rin), হাওলাত (haōlat), কর্জ (korjo)

   আমি দেনায় ডুবছি।

   ami denaẏ ḍubochi.

   I am drowning in debt.

Usage notes

Like in many languages, the concept of loans and debt are the same in Bengali.
