[edit]Inherited from Magadhi Prakrit 𑀤𑀫𑁆𑀫𑀟 (dammaḍa), from 𑀤𑀫𑁆𑀫 (damma) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀟- (-ḍa-), from Sanskrit दम्य (damya, “tameable; young bull to be tamed”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *damHyás, from Proto-Indo-European *demh₂-yós. Cognate with Assamese দমৰা (domora), Odia ଦାମୁଡ଼ (dāmuṛa).
