Inherited from Prakrit *𑀟𑁂𑀯𑁆𑀯𑀭𑀓 (*ḍĕvvaraka), from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀟𑁂𑀯𑁆𑀯 (*ḍevva) (and also *𑀟𑀸𑀯𑁆𑀯 (*ḍāvva) and *𑀟𑀺𑀯𑁆𑀯 (*ḍivva)) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀭- (-ra-) + -𑀓- (-ka-), of substrate origin. Cognate with Odia ଡେବରା (ḍebarā), Hindi डावा (ḍāvā), डिबरिया (ḍibriyā), Nepali डेब्रो (ḍebro), Marathi डव्रा (ḍavrā). Doublet of তেওড়া (teōṛa).
