[edit]From Gaudi-Kamarupi Prakrit ডাহিণ (ḍāhiṇa), from Magadhi Prakrit 𑀤𑀸𑀳𑀺𑀡 (dāhiṇa) with retroflexion, from Sanskrit दाक्षिण (dākṣiṇa, “right”), from दक्षिण (dakṣiṇa, “right, south”). Cognates include Bengali ডান (ḍan), Hindi दाहिना (dāhinā).
