Etymology

Inherited from Sanskrit यातृ (yātṛ), possibly through an equivalent of Maharastri Prakrit 𑀚𑀸𑀉𑀬𑀸 (jāuyā). Compare Assamese জা (za), Odia ଜା () and Marathi जाऊ (jāū).
