[edit]Inherited from Middle Bengali ওঢ়না (ōṛhona), from Old Bengali ওঢণা (oḍhaṇā), from Prakrit 𑀑𑀟𑁆𑀠𑀡 (ŏḍḍhaṇa, “scarf, cloak, veil”), from *𑀑𑀟𑁆𑀠𑁆- (*ŏḍḍh-, “to put on, wear clothes, cover”) + -𑀅𑀡 (-aṇa, nominal suffix), borrowed from Proto-Dravidian *uḍ-, or a related language. Doublet of ওড় (ōṛ, “pillowcase”) and উড়নি (uṛoni, “cloak”).
