Inherited from Prakrit 𑀉𑀁𑀤𑀭 (uṃdara​), 𑀇𑀁𑀤𑀼𑀭 (iṃdura) from Sanskrit उन्दुर (undura), इन्दुर (indura), from a substrate language.[1] Cognate with Assamese এন্দুৰ (endur), Chakma 𑄅𑄚𑄴𑄘𑄪𑄢𑄴 (undur), 𑄃𑄪𑄚𑄴𑄘𑄪𑄢𑄴 (undur), Sylheti ꠃꠘ꠆ꠖꠥꠞ (undur), Hindi इंदुर (indur), Gujarati ઉંદર (undar), Marathi उंदीर (undīr), Konkani उंदिर (undir).
