From Magadhi Prakrit 𑀅𑀝𑁆𑀞𑀸𑀮𑀳 (aṭṭhālaha), 𑀅𑀝𑁆𑀞𑀸𑀮𑀰 (aṭṭhālaśa), from Sanskrit অষ্টাদশ (aṣṭā́daśa).

      śuko ukto bhagowoto jiṭö bahro skondho,
      oṭharo hajaro ślöke korila nirbbondho.
      Śuka(?) mentioned Bhagavata which is twelve chapters,
      with eighteen slokas, made the custom.
