Derived from Sanskrit अकुतःभया (akutaḥbhayā). Structurally, from Bahuvrīhi compound of অ- (o-) +‎ কুতোভয়া (kutōbhoẏa), or, by Bengali prefixation of অ- (o-) +‎ কুতোভয়া (kutōbhoẏa), or alternatively, by Bengali suffixation অকুতোভয় (okutōbhoẏ) +‎ -আ (-a).
