- The Prishthamatra is a vowel sign used in early Nandinagari inscriptions; the vowel signs for e, ai, o, and au were represented using this alone or in combination with े, ा or ो used instead of े, ै, ो or ौ. E.g., te, tai, to, tau as तॎ, तॎे, तॎा, तॎो instead of ते, तै, तो, तौ.[1]
