[edit]Inherited from Sanskrit अंसिय (aṃsiya), अंस्य (aṃsya, “belonging to the shoulder”) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-). Cognate with Gujarati હાંસવો (hā̃svo, “spade”).
