Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *stawtā́ (“praiser, eulogizer”), from Proto-Indo-European *stéw-tōr ~ *stu-tr-és (“praiser, eulogizer”), from *stew- (“to praise, eulogize”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬯𐬙𐬀𐬊𐬙𐬀𐬭 (staotar, “praiser”).
