[edit]Semi-learned borrowing from Sanskrit शोषयति (śoṣáyati).[1] Cognate with Old Punjabi ਸੋਖਿ (sokhi), Old Marathi 𑘫𑘻𑘬𑘜𑘹 (śoṣaṇe), 𑘫𑘻𑘎𑘜𑘹 (śokaṇe), 𑘫𑘻𑘏𑘜𑘹 (śokhaṇe), 𑘭𑘻𑘎𑘜𑘹 (sokaṇe), 𑘭𑘻𑘏𑘜𑘹 (sokhaṇe), Old Bengali সোষই.
