[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑀺𑀟𑁆𑀠𑀺 (siḍḍhi), from Sanskrit *श्रीढि (śrīḍhi), from the ancestor of the Sanskrit root श्रिष् (śriṣ) / श्लिष् (śliṣ, “to attach, clasp”) + धि (dhi, “put, place”). Cognate to Marathi शिडी (śiḍī), Bengali সিঁড়ি (śĩṛi).
