[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *sáẓḍʰā, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *sáždʰā, from Proto-Indo-European *séǵʰ-tōr (“conqueror”), from *seǵʰ- (“to overcome, to conquer”). Cognate with Ancient Greek Ἕκτωρ (Héktōr).
