Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *samHáranam (“battle, strife”), from Proto-Indo-European *sem-h₃ér-en-o-m. Cognate with Avestan 𐬵𐬀𐬨𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬥𐬀 (hamarəna, “battle”), Old Persian 𐏃𐎶𐎼𐎴 (h-m-r-n /hamarana/, “battle”).
