Borrowed from Classical Persian صندوق (sandūq), from Arabic صُنْدُوق (ṣundūq), ultimately from Ancient Greek σῠνθήκη (sunthḗkē). Compare Odia ସିନ୍ଦୁକ (sinduka), Bengali সিন্দুক (śinduk), Assamese চন্দুক (sonduk), Kannada ಸಂದೂಕ (sandūka), Punjabi ਸੰਦੂਕ਼ (sandūq).
