Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑀁𑀓𑀟 (saṃkaḍa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit संकट (saṃkaṭa). Cognate with Gujarati સાંકડું (sā̃kḍũ). Doublet of संकट (saṅkaṭ).
