[edit]Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘭𑘹𑘪𑘘 (sevaṭa) (compare 𑘭𑘹𑘪𑘚𑘲 f (sevaḍī)), from Prakrit 𑀙𑁂𑀯𑀝𑁆𑀝 (chevaṭṭa), from 𑀙𑁂𑀅 (chea) with Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀝𑁆𑀝- (-ṭṭa-), from Sanskrit छेद (cheda). Cognates with -𑀝𑁆𑀝- (-ṭṭa-) include Gujarati છેવટ (chevaṭ), Sindhi ڇيٽِي / छेटी.
