Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćáHstā (“commander, ruler; teacher”), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱéh₁s-tōr, from *ḱeh₁s- (“to command, rule, instruct, teach”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬯𐬁𐬯𐬙𐬀𐬭 (sāstar, “commander, ruler; evil ruler, tyrant”), 𐬟𐬭𐬀𐬯𐬁𐬯𐬙𐬀𐬭 (frasāstar, “commander”).
