Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀮𑀸𑀯𑀽 (lāvū) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓𑁆𑀓- (-kka-) + -𑀇𑀓𑀸- (-ikā-), from Sanskrit लाबु (lābu). Cognate with Assamese লাউ (lau). Doublet of लाबु (lābu).
