Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀮𑀝𑁆𑀝 (*laṭṭa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀉𑀮𑁆𑀮- (-ulla-) + -𑀓- (-ka-). Cognate with Kumaoni लटुलो (“cluster of hair”).
