Etymology

[edit]

Derived from रोहित (rohita, red), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁rewdʰ- (red). Compare Pali rohicca (a kind of deer) and Prakrit 𑀭𑁄𑀚𑁆𑀛 (rŏjjha, a kind of deer), both inherited from different Old Indo-Aryan words for reddish-brown deer derived from the same root.
