Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀭𑀼𑀚𑁆𑀛𑀇 (rujjhaï), from Sanskrit *रुह्यति (*ruhyáti) (attested in रोरुह्यते (roruhyate, intensive)), from the root रुह् (ruh, “to grow, sprout”).
