Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘨𑘦𑘜𑘹 (ramaṇe), from a passive form of Sanskrit रम् (ram, to take pleasure, root). Compare Maharastri Prakrit 𑀭𑀫𑀇 (ramaï), Gujarati રમવું (ramvũ), Hindi रमना (ramnā), Punjabi ਰਮਣਾ (ramṇā) / رمنا (rmnā).
