Etymology

From the root रंह् (raṃh, “to speed up, hasten”) +‎ -अस् (-as).

     गुरुणैवमनुज्ञातौ रथेनानिलरंहसा ।

     guruṇaivamanujñātau rathenānilaraṃhasā.

     Permitted by their guru, they both [returned to their city] by their chariot with speed of wind.

     वासुदेवाङ्घ्र्यनुध्यानपरिबृंहितरंहसा । भक्त्या निर्मथिताशेषकषायधिषणोऽर्जुनः ॥

     vāsudevāṅghryanudhyānaparibṛṃhitaraṃhasā. bhaktyā nirmathitāśeṣakaṣāyadhiṣaṇoʼrjunaḥ.

     Arjuna’s constant remembrance of the lotus feet of Lord Krishna rapidly (literally, “with great celerity”) increased his devotion, and as a result of this devotion, all the trash in his thoughts subsided.

     yaḥ paraṃ raṃhasaḥ sākṣāttriguṇājjīvasaṃjñitāt. bhagavantaṃ vāsudevaṃ prapannaḥ sa priyo hi me.

     Any person who is surrendered to Lord Krishna — ablating from vehemence, the three guṇas [sattva, rajas, tamas] and what is known to the living — is certainly very dear to me.

     Covered with gold, meath-tinted, dropping fatness, your chariot with its freight of food comes here; Swift as thought, Asvins, wind-speeded, wherewith you travel over all obstructions.
