Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *yaw(i)yā́ (“stream, canal”). Cognate with Old Persian 𐎹𐎢𐎻𐎹𐎠 (y-u-vi-y-a /yauviyā/) (whence Persian جوی (juy), جو (ju)), Northern Kurdish co.
