Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *HyáwHasam (“pasture, pasturage”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬫𐬀𐬎𐬎𐬀𐬢𐬵𐬀 (yauuaŋha, “pasture”).

yatáḥ pū́rvām̐ iva sákhīm̐ránu hvaya girā́ gṛṇīhi kāmínaḥ. - Praise the Generous-givers. At this liberal patron's rite they enjoy like cattle in the pasture.
So call thou unto them who come as ancient Friends: hymn those who love thee with a song.
