[edit]Borrowed from Sanskrit यवनिका (yavanikā), from यवन (yavan) + -इका (-ikā) from Ashokan Prakrit 𑀬𑁄𑀦 (yona), from Old Persian 𐎹𐎢𐎴 (y-u-n /yauna/), ultimately from Ancient Greek Ἴων (Íōn, “an Ionian”).
