Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *mazdʰHrás, from Proto-Indo-European *mn̥s-dʰh₁-rós from *ménos (“mind”) + *dʰeh₁- (“to put”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬨𐬄𐬰𐬛𐬭𐬀 (mązdra) (< *manzdʰHrás), Proto-Germanic *mundraz, Proto-Slavic *mǫdrъ.
