Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Prakrit 𑀫𑀼𑀝𑁆𑀞𑀺 (muṭṭhi) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀇𑀓𑀸- (-ikā-) without compensatory lengthening, from Sanskrit मुष्टि (muṣṭi), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *muštíš (“fist”). Doublet of मुष्टि (muṣṭi), मुश्त (muśt), and मूठ (mūṭh). Cognate with Punjabi مُٹّھی (muṭṭhī), Persian مشت (mošt).
