Etymology

Possibly from Sanskrit *मांसपुटक (māṃsapuṭaka), from मांस (māṃsa) +‎ पुट (puṭa) +‎ -क (-ka).[1]

Another possibility is Sanskrit श्मश्रु (śmaśru, beard).[2]
