    From an adverbial use of Prakrit 𑀫𑀕𑁆𑀕 (magga, road, way), from Ashokan Prakrit 𑀫𑀕 (maga /⁠magga⁠/), from Sanskrit मार्ग (mārga), whence also मग्ग (magga).
