[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *maṭṣúṣ, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *maćšúš, from Proto-Indo-European *moḱs (“quickly, early”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬨𐬊𐬱𐬎 (mošu), Latin mox (“soon”), Irish moch (“early”).

द्विबर्हसो य उप गोपमागुरदक्षिणासो अच्युतादुदुक्षन्॥- makṣū kanyāḥ sakhyaṃ navagvā ṛtam vadanta ṛtayuktimagman.
dvibarhaso ya upa gopamāguradakṣiṇāso acyutādudukṣan. - Uttering praise to suit the rite, Navagvas came speedily to win the damsel's friendship.
They who approached the twice-strong stable's keeper, meedless would milk the rocks that naught had shaken.
