Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *mruHdʰí, from Proto-Indo-European *mluHdʰí (2nd person singular imperative of *mlewH- (“to say, tell”)). Cognate with Avestan 𐬨𐬭𐬏𐬌𐬜𐬌 (mrūiδi, “say!”, 2nd person singular imperative of 𐬨𐬭𐬀𐬊 (mrao, “to say”)).

तमा र॑भस्व स॒मिधा॑ यविष्ठ नृ॒चक्ष॑स॒श्चक्षु॑षे रन्धयैनम्॥- ihá prá brūhi yatamáḥ só agne yó yātudhā́no yá idáṃ kṛṇóti.
támā́ rabhasva samídhā yaviṣṭha nṛcákṣasaścákṣuṣe randhayainam. - Here tell this forth, O Agni: whosoever is, he himself, or acts as, a demon,
Him grasp, O you Most Youthful, with your fuel. To the Mati-seer's eye give him as loot.
