From Proto-Indo-Aryan *plúṣiṣ, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *plúšiš, from Proto-Indo-European *plúsis (flea). Cognate with Latin pūlex, Ancient Greek ψύλλα (psúlla), Old English flēa (whence English flea).
