[edit]Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀧𑀇𑀝𑁆𑀞𑀸𑀡 (païṭṭhāṇa), from Sanskrit प्रतिष्ठान (pratiṣṭhā́na, “foundation”).[1] Related to पैठणी (paiṭhṇī, “a type of sari”). Compare Old Marathi 𑘢𑘿𑘨𑘝𑘱𑘭𑘿𑘞𑘰𑘡 (pratisthāna).
