[edit]Inherited from Prakrit 𑀧𑀼𑀝𑀺𑀬𑀸 (puṭiyā) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀇𑀓𑀸- (-ikā-), from Sanskrit पुटिका (puṭikā, “a bag or vessel”), from पुट (puṭa, “a fold, pocket, hollow space”). Equivalent to पुड़ा (puṛā, “parcel”) + -इया (-iyā, feminine diminutive suffix). Compare Punjabi ਪੁੜੀ (puṛī) / پُڑِی (puṛī), Gujarati પડી (paḍī), Marathi पुडी (puḍī).
