Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀡𑀺𑀅𑀲𑀇 (ṇiasaï), 𑀡𑀺𑀅𑀁𑀲𑀇 (ṇiaṃsaï), from Sanskrit निवस्ते (nivaste). Related to Old Marathi 𑘡𑘹𑘭𑘜𑘹𑘽 (nesaṇeṃ, sari), 𑘡𑘹𑘭𑘪𑘲𑘜𑘹𑘽 (nesavīṇeṃ), 𑘡𑘹𑘭𑘩𑘹𑘽 (nesaleṃ, clothed), 𑘡𑘹𑘭𑘪𑘜𑘲 (nesavaṇī), 𑘡𑘹𑘭𑘪𑘡𑘲 (nesavanī).
